This activity supports the overall implementation of the project by providing a detailed overview of the health status of the most vulnerable groups on the territory of the target municipalities. For its implementation, the methodology developed by the National Network of Health Mediators is used. The mapping will cover a total of 7,500 people and will contribute to the development of a plan for the implementation of the campaigns and provision of health services envisaged within the project.
The mapping focuses on the marginalized parts of the selected Roma neighborhoods and villages in each of the six municipalities included in the project and sets the following goals:
- To highlight the specifics of living conditions in households and the social and health profile of their members;
- To outline specific knowledge about health and social services for pregnant women and young mothers and to formulate proposals to improve access to them and to overcome deficits related to the preparation of young mothers for healthy care of children;
- Based on an analysis of the age of birth of the first child, number of children and knowledge and use of contraceptives, to formulate proposals for the content of project activities related to family planning;
- Based on the analysis of the health status, the knowledge about sexually transmitted infections and their prevention and the willingness of the respondents to take advantage of the planned AG examinations and blood tests, to formulate proposals for the approach and content of the health information campaigns provided for in the project and for the organization of AG examinations and blood tests.
After consultations with the members of the project team and with representatives of the municipalities - in the period June 7-15, 2022, the thematic areas in the mapping questionnaire were specified.
On June 24-25 in Sofia, Prof. Maia Grekova, sociologist, and Tsveta Petkova, an expert from NNHM, held a training session for the health mediators who are involved in mapping. The health mediators participating in the training showed a serious interest in the activities envisaged in the project, commitment and exceptional motivation to master the necessary skills for successful mapping.
After a pilot survey in the period 1-10 July 2022, the actual mapping of households has started and is expected to end on 20 September 2022.
In the period July-September 2022, the team of NNHM experts actively travels to the target municipalities to provide on-site assistance to the health mediators involved in the survey, online consultations and meetings are held in order to collect the most accurate and comprehensive information about the targets communities.
After the completion of the mapping process, data entry and analysis of the situation of the most vulnerable communities in the pilot six municipalities will be carried out.
